Appalachian Regional Heathcare needed to expand their Hazard hospital to accommodate the growth of several departments. Denham-Blythe delivered this design-build project consisting of a three-story hospital over a full basement. The work was divided into multiple phases including site work, new construction, and complete renovation of a former ED space.


  • 1st floor - Emergency Department including 23 beds and 7 fast track beds

  • 2nd floor - 16 bed cardiac care/CCU

  • 3rd floor - 34 bed medical/surgical step-down unit

  • Rooftop heliport

  • Basement mechanical room and 8,000 SF shell space

  • Conversion of former ER space to 22 bed Pre-op suite

  • Energy plant upgrades to improve capacity and efficiency

  • Site work improvements
